DAY 1

BANGOR

Welcome to Bangor, Maine; home of lumberjack icon Paul Bunyan, horror author Stephen King and the jumping off point for our Icelandic Adventure.  You’ll first meet your fellow explorers after you touch down at Bangor International Airport, Maine.  Post-flight we’ll have a International & Atlantic Ops briefing before a short walk (500 feet) to check in at our runway-side hotel.

Later we’ll meet for a welcome dinner; enjoy some local cuisine, relax after a day full of flying & learning and build excitement for upcoming our cross-country flight.

DAY 2

GOOSE BAY & NARSARSUAQ

This morning we depart Maine and start our intrepid journey towards Narsarsuaq.  Today’s route will consist of two legs; our first destination is Goose Bay, Canada, where we’ll stop briefly to top up on fuel and check conditions.

From Goose Bay we cross the Labrador Sea, gliding towards beautiful, snow-capped Greenland.  Enjoy the flight and take in the endless ocean views before touching down at Narsarsuaq airport.

We’ll spend our second night at Narsarsuaq’s sole hotel.  Tonight, dinner will be held in the hotel where you’ll enjoy authentic Greenland cuisine in this snow-covered, remote location.

DAY 3

REYKJAVIK

After a short flight across the North Atlantic Ocean we’ll touch down in Reykjavik, Europe’s Littlest Big City. Keep your feet firmly on the ground today while you explore and discover Reykjavik’s beautiful landscape and culinary delights.

Our home for tonight will be in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, at the elegant Canopy by Hilton hotel. The rest of the afternoon is yours to do as you please – unwind after your flight adventure or stretch your legs and indulge in some delicious Icelandic dishes in Reykjavik before tonight’s activity.

For those who wish to join, we have an evening hike planned to Fagradalsfjall, Iceland’s active volcano. Witness how our planet builds itself during this unique experience to the volcanic eruption crater and lava fields. Moderate fitness is required for this 10km hike and we will return to the hotel before midnight.

DAY 4

REYKJAVIK & NESJAVELLIR

No wakeup call needed today; the morning is yours to relax before we meet for our tour of Reykjavik town. After check-out we will enjoy Reykjavik at ground level, strolling through the streets on a guided tour of the city and it’s landmarks. Reykjavik is full of life and beaming with creativity; take in the distinctive landmarks before we stop for a delicious lunch the ‘Matarkjallarinn’ (Food Cellar).

The next portion of our Icelandic adventure takes us to Nesjavellir, a location known for its lively geothermal and geological activity. Private transport will whisk you away into the Icelandic wilderness to stay in the stunning Ion Adventure Hotel.

Less than an hour’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Reykjavík and set against a backdrop of majestic mountainous lava fields, ION Adventure Hotel is an unforgettable experience.

On arrival we will leave you to settle in for the evening. Enjoy the striking views from your room, enjoy dinner at your leisure at the hotel’s first-class restaurant and finally fall asleep to the gentle glow of the Northern Lights.

DAY 5

NESJAVELLIR

Today is yours to do as you please; whether you are seeking a quiet, soulful soak beneath the Northern Lights, a challenging trek across an ancient glacier or a day of fly-fishing in plentiful icy rivers – at ION Adventure Hotel, these are only a wish away. Our location by the Golden Circle route makes the perfect base from which to explore Iceland’s rich heritage, hardy flora and fauna and exquisite landscape.

Bring your stories of the day’s adventures to the dinner table as we gather for one last evening meal together at ION’s New Nordic restaurant, Silfra. Combining new ingredients with more traditional fare, Silfra’s cultural cuisine is the perfect way to bring our Icelandic adventure to a close.
