I have been flying the Cirrus SR-22 for years, and have done some instrument proficiency training
in the full motion, full visual simulator located at The Flight Academy(TFA) at KVGT. When I
learned that 50% of the Eclipse position holders were not passing the Flight Skills Assessment
(FSA) in the simulator at Eclipse, I decided to get some training in the Cirrus simulator at KVGT.
The Flight Academy's instructors are simply the best Cirrus instructors in the nation. I took the IFR course
with them and it was clear from the moment we first trained together that my instructor had the knowledge,
patience, and teaching skills to accelerate my learning, proficiency and mostly importantly my confidence in operating
this amazing aircraft.
My instructor and I had an absolutely awesome trip. Grand Teton, Old Faithful, Deadwood, Crazy Horse,
Rushmore, O'Hare at night, The House of Blues, Burke Lakefront, Atlantic City and the DC ADIZ, to mention
just some of the waypoints. And in between them all, my CFI provided powerfully effective training. As I told
him, I hope I can retain most of the training, and I know I'll never forget the trip.
The Flight Academy sent me easily the best flight instructor that I've worked with. He's extremely knowledgeable
about the Cirrus, full of great tips, has a great instruction style and is an all-around good guy. As a student, you
can't ask for much more.
My son, Nico, and I trained with The Flight Academy in Duluth and then flew back to California with the
instructor. Like most other 1000-hour pilots, I have flown with many instructors. The Flight Academy’s ranks
among the very best. My CFI not only knew how to fly my SR-22, he knew how to teach me to fly it. Most
instructors are good pilots but this one was also an outstanding teacher. He was easygoing, but thorough, fun
to fly with, but precise and demanding in his standards. I will hire them again to meet my recurrent training needs.
My instructor knows the limits of his machine and the hopes of his students and blends a rapid "process oriented"
teaching style with a high standard of proficiency.
Flying out of Boeing Field in Seattle just after September 11 was quite an experience. I made a whole series
of flights to various islands surrounding Boeing as well as a number of trips inland and to Portland. My introduction
to the Cirrus and my instructor’s patient and calm manner in guiding me through the various US type radio calls
was extremely helpful and rewarding. The trip ended in a flight from Boeing to Vancouver in the most appalling
weather with visibility down to 400 feet. The trip to Vancouver was my first acquaintance with the GPS auto
pilot system and it certainly proved its worth despite being asked to go around as we were being chased by a
Boeing 767 on final! My visit to Cirrus at Duluth was a quite outstanding experience with flights to Chicago,
Oshkosh and Rapid City with close encounters with the Presidents' heads and Crazy Horse. Our final trip was
to both Minneapolis and St Paul with two stops at the main airport. |
